Anamatic & applied theories.

In relation to Andrew Goodwin's theories about the convention of music videos, our music video shows characteristics of the music genre the song is. The genre of our sound could be seen as metal 'hardcore' rock or 'trance' and characteristics from a lot of these videos are performance, and that the band are performing in a small, sweaty room, to give a rock, DIY feel to the video, as in rock music nowadays there is a lot of talk about 'selling out' when bands decide to make big production music videos, so often they will try to make their videos as stripped back as possible, and we have mimicked this, so we are following Andrew Goodwin's idea of using genre characteristics.
an example of another video like this could be 'The Road' by 'We Are The Ocean:'

Andrew Goodwin's point that there is a relationship between lyrics and visuals, either through visuals, amplifications, or complete contradiction is shown in our video mainly through amplification. Although some of our lyrics such as 'The herd is rowdy, the squad is vexed' could be seen as illustration, as a herd is a group of people or things, and we will be shown as a 'rowdy' group of people, so in this context illustration is shown, but mainly amplification of the lyrics are shown in the visuals, because we do not directly contradict the lyrics, but there is no attempt to display the meaning of the lyrics through the visuals of the video, and so we amplify the lyrics through performance.

'There must be close ups in the video'
there are various close ups of each member throughout our anamatic, these can show emotions, as well as close ups on instruments which amplifies the performance nature of the video, showing the instruments being played.

Although we do not use intertextual references as such, there is a scene where the keyboard is smashed towards the end of the video, this is a reference to the genre of rock itself as it is seen as a very 'rock star' 'bad ass' thing to do, to smash your instrument, and so this amplifies the kind of video we are trying to make and the kind of image we want to have.

  1. Liam et al. A very clear animatic with focus on the singer for 'star image'.

The performance is clear but what needs adding is the movement of the camera as currently it is too static. Also when the song merges into late 90's rave/techno/electronica (or basically a rip off of Atari Teenage riot) the speed of either your editing or movement of the camera must increase.
